Indian photograph reconstruction game
Jaali
Jaali is a daily image-reconstruction game built from photographs of Indian places, craft and everyday life.
How Jaali works
The photograph is divided into sixteen rectangular pieces. Select two pieces to exchange their positions, or select a piece again to rotate it. Visual details such as architectural lines, repeated patterns, flowers, markets, landscapes and textures help you rebuild the image.
Optional helpers can fix the corners, reveal five tiles or correct all rotations without completing the whole puzzle for you. Once the image is restored, Jaali reveals the photograph and its cultural or geographic context while preserving the original source credit. The game rewards observation and pattern recognition rather than specialist knowledge. It is free to play on desktop or mobile, with a new India-focused photograph released every day at midnight IST.
The subject changes from day to day, but each photograph contains enough colour, texture and structure to support reconstruction. The result is a visual puzzle that also introduces a place, practice or detail from India after the image becomes whole.
